History
Produced by the British Royal Mint, the Queen’s Beasts series commemorates the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The designs are inspired by the ten statues that lined the entrance to Westminster Abbey, where Her Majesty was crowned in 1953. These beasts are ancient symbols of power, representing noble families and houses in the Queen’s line of succession.
The White Horse of Hanover was added to the Royal Arms of England in 1714, when George of Hanover (King George I) ascended to the throne. He was the first of six monarchs from the House of Hanover to reign in Britain.
